A longtime federal prosecutor who worked on civil litigation in the San Diego U.S. Attorney's Office was sworn in Friday as the newest federal magistrate judge in the San Diego area. U.S. Magistrate Judge Steve B. Chu was sworn in Friday in U.S. District Court in downtown San Diego. Steve Benny Chu was appointed by the district judges of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, which covers San Diego and Imperial counties. Chu is the first Asian American to serve as a magistrate judge in the district.
