According to AAA, as of Thursday, California easily had the most expensive gas in the nation, followed by Washington state, Nevada and Hawaii. Re '‘It's just ridiculous': San Diego gas prices near $6 a gallon' ( Sept. 20 ): I was in New York City for business last week and paid $3.94 per gallon for regular unleaded gas. According to an AAA national survey , that's about average for New York state and $2 less than the average in California, which AAA says has easily the most costly gas of any state.
