Like much of the nation, the local economy grew despite rising prices and increased borrowing costs. However, San Diego's economic growth has been slower than many parts of the nation. It might have a low jobless rate, but that rate is still higher than most metropolitan areas. Complicating matters, labor force participation in California is much lower than most states.
